The speed at which new data is created on the web is mind boggling. Sources from Twitter to Dropbox are helping us organize everything from our thoughts to our spreadsheets. At CartoDB, we have been trying to help you organize your geospatial data and help you share the insights you gain from that data with the world. However, keeping up with the speed at which new data becomes available can be a daunting task.

Well, it is the start of a long stretch of Fall conferences and events where we will be demonstrating how to use CartoDB andtalking the future of our platform. Tomorrow we’ll kick it all off with NACIS in Greenville, South Carolina. It is the first time we have been able to get to NACIS, heck, it’s the first time we’ve been to a lot of these events. If you are planning on coming to one, be sure to check out one of our workshops or presentations. We look for seeing you in person!

Last week was the international FOSS4G meeting, one of our favorite conferences of the year. We told you a few weeks ago about some of the things we would be presenting at the meeting. Something we forgot to mention was that this year they did something completely new called, “Opening Up The Map”. In short, it was a community generated gallery of some of the best maps coming from the open source community.

Earlier this week we saw this amazing blog post from LifeWatch, where they map and analyze the life of a seagull. The blog post comes out of a project that tracks, in real-time, 30 birds using solar powered GPS units. From those 30 birds, the authors single-out Eric,

In this guest blog, Manuel Timita and Katya Koval describe how they are building one of the most interesting real estate business intelligence tools available with Open Data, Illustreets. We are very impressed on their usage of the entire CartoDB platform, from the Maps API to the SQL API is an example of the complete type of Data Products you can build with CartoDB. We got the opportunity to meet Manuel during last FOSS4G in Nottingham and the passion they have put on their product is unmatched. We love what they are building and cant wait to see the new functionalities they come up with. Enjoy!

Last weekend there were elections in Germany, and that means a lot of mapping! Maps are a fundamental tool to explain voting results, differences between regions, possible coalitions, and more. And during election night they become one of the most fundamental visualization techniques for showing the status of results.

We know it can be challenging to pick the right tools to create a successful project. Good developers, designers, and other map creators want to know that the tools they use will value to their work. They want to kick the tires, test the capacity, understand the limits. That is why we have always provided users with a free account tier. But what about testing our larger developer accounts? Today we are announcing our new free 14-day trial period for all Magellan plan upgrades.

We were very excited earlier this spring by the announcement that GitHub would be including interactive maps for small GeoJSON files stored in your repos. What a cool feature! It will definitely improve your repo and data management while also making it easy to share your geospatial data. If you haven’t had a chance to play with GeoJSON on GitHub on your own yet, take a look at this set of world borders inside the CartoDB repository,
